The Admin Building stands between the Upper and Middle School Quads, housing Preps Main Office, Admissions, Advancement, Business, and Heads’ offices, as well as Breakthrough Santa Fe. The Admin Building is also home to Prep’s award-winning Performing Arts department, including music and choral classes, Middle and Upper School theatrical productions, and the Driscoll Auditorium.

Surrounded by Upper School core classrooms, the Upper School Quad is a hub of campus activity. From the first day of school to Middle School Promotion and Commencement in the spring, it offers a warm central gathering space for the Prep community, looking out to Brennand Field, downtown Santa Fe, and the Jemez Mountains. 

Named for former Assistant Head Master and Latin & history teacher Brigadier General Mordaunt Elrington, the 16th-century bell was brought from Mexico by the General and his wife, Peggy, and donated to the school in 1972. The bell is rung by a senior student three times on the first day of classes to open each school year, and four times by a rising senior at the conclusion of each spring’s Commencement ceremony.

Renovated in 2013, the Middle School Quad is home to the Middle School core classrooms as well as the offices of the Middle School Head and the Experiential Education department.

The Prep library sits at the heart of campus. Built in 2006, it was the first LEED Gold-certified building in New Mexico. The library’s two stories offer multiple gathering, learning, and instruction spaces for our community, including group study tables and individual study carrels, private tutoring rooms, and multiple classroom spaces. The bottom floor is also home to our Language, Learning Services, and College Counseling departments, as well as the Adesso Archives.

Named for Jan Adesso — whose 42-year career at Prep had a significant impact on generations of Prep students — the Adesso Archives serve as the institutional memory of Santa Fe Prep and its history. The collection includes student and school publications, photographs, oral histories, correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, curricula, event programs, video recordings, textiles, memorabilia, athletic history, and more.

Installed behind the Middle School and on most of the school’s rooftops during the 2017-2018 school year, the voltaic solar panels were a gift to Prep from a forward-thinking anonymous donor. Installation of the panels — which tie directly into the City of Santa Fe’s electric utility grid — was part of a joint effort between the Prep community, local businesses, and students enrolled in Santa Fe Community College’s solar energy certificate classes.

Located behind the library, Sallie’s Hill offers a moderate hiking trail and panoramic views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and greater Santa Fe area. The hill is named in honor of Sallie Wagner, a prominent Santa Fe cultural figure, historic preservationist, and early supporter of Santa Fe Prep, who placed 19.5 acres of her hillside property into a permanent conservation easement. Today, the hill is managed by the Santa Fe Conservation Trust and serves as an outdoor classroom and experiential learning space for Prep students, regularly utilized by our science, English, and art classes.

The Commons is home to Prep’s Athletics department, gymnasium, weight room, and dining hall, where students and faculty gather daily to eat lunch. The Founders’ Room, located on the second floor, is both a classroom and meeting space. The offices of the Davis New Mexico Scholarship and Rural Opportunities for College Access (ROCA), two of Prep’s community partners, are also located in the Commons.

Planted in 1976 by General Elrington and long-time math teacher Fred Maas, the cottonwood began as a fragile "broomstick." Today, the magnificent shade tree on Brennand field serves as an iconic natural landmark on campus.

From impromptu lunchtime games of nine square and spike ball to Middle School P.E. classes and lacrosse games, there’s always something happening on Brennand Field. One of Prep’s two natural grass fields, Brennand is also the site of Spring Fling, a school-wide celebration held on seniors' last day of classes before they depart for their month of SIP/TAP work.

The founding father of Santa Fe’s Pueblo Revival architectural style, John Gaw Meem made a monumental gift to Santa Fe Prep when, in 1968, he donated his former home and architectural studio to the school. Today, the building affectionately known as The Meem is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to our Visual Arts department. It houses fully-equipped ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, and photography studios, a dark room, and our senior humanities classes.

Located directly across Camino Cruz Blanca from Prep’s campus, the lot provides ample student parking as well as overflow parking for campus events.

Located on the campus of St. John’s College and situated at the base of Sun Mountain, Prep’s second natural grass field is where our varsity soccer teams host their home games and enthusiastic Blue Griffin supporters fill the sidelines to cheer on our student-athletes.

Gifted by an alumni family in 2017, the antique fire truck has become an iconic symbol of Prep athletics. Because a traditional scoreboard could not be permanently installed on Sun Mountain Field, the truck was retrofitted with one and is driven up to the field on game days.
